About GeneConvert
GeneConvert (geneconvert.com) is a small educational website with free DNA sequence utilities that run entirely in your web browser, plus reference guides to common genomic file formats and articles about gene conversion, the biological process the site is named after.
What you will find here
- Sequence tools: a DNA sequence analyzer, a FASTA/plain-sequence format converter, a genetic code translator, a codon usage calculator and a restriction site finder. They run as JavaScript in your browser; sequences are not uploaded to a server.
- File format reference: FASTA, FASTQ, SAM/BAM, VCF, BED and GFF explained with examples.
- Gene ID lookup reference: how gene identifiers from HGNC, Ensembl, NCBI and UniProt relate, with links out to those databases.

Who it is for
Students, educators and researchers who need a quick way to check or reformat a short DNA sequence, or a plain-language refresher on genomic file formats. The tools are designed for small inputs pasted into a text box; they are not a replacement for established command-line tools (samtools, bcftools, seqkit and similar) for production pipelines.
How the content is produced
Pages are written and maintained by the site operator and checked against public references such as format specifications and NCBI/Ensembl documentation. GeneConvert does not offer a cloud platform, API or paid service, and it is not affiliated with any of the databases it links to.
